No one likes putting together IKEA furniture. And I’m guessing this was probably a task that you previously farmed out to “the other half” (notice I did not say the “better half”). Well friends, you’ve probably moved into a new place and need (or want) new furniture, but you’re probably also waiting on assets to be divided so are working with a budget. Leaving IKEA furniture as a viable option.

Trust me, I’ve been there. I actually bought the exact dresser in this photo. But no way in hell was I putting it together.

So here’s the deal. If you have a handy friend who likes assembling really frustrating furniture and getting bloody fingers from the repeated use of an allen wrench, go with that plan. But if not, I strongly encourage you to hire someone from TaskRabbit, Angie’s List, or Thumbtack (my personal favorite). In fact, IKEA now lets you add assembly when you are purchasing.

I moved across the country with what would fit in a U-Haul van. This included my cats, my peloton, my clothes, and a random assortment of other things, but it did not include much furniture. Moving, unpacking, furnishing, and settling in is exhausting. Farming out the tasks that will save you time and money is ok. In fact, I encourage it. Save your sanity (and your fingertips), let someone else do the work.
